How to speed read with RSVP
RSVP stands for rapid serial visual presentation: instead of moving your eyes across lines, the words come to you, one at a time, in the same spot. A highlighted letter in each word — about a third of the way in — shows exactly where to look, so your eyes never have to search for the next word.
- Start slower than you think. Begin around 250–300 words per minute, where every word feels easy to follow.
- Raise the speed in small steps. Add 25–50 WPM once a pace feels comfortable — use ↑ without stopping.
- Let sentence ends breathe. The reader pauses a little longer on the last word of each sentence, so ideas have time to land.
- Scrub back when you need to. Drag sideways on the word, or press ← to jump back 5 words.
Questions
Is this speed reader free?
Yes. It runs entirely in your browser, with no sign-up and no limits.
Is my text sent anywhere?
Text you paste never leaves your device — it is only kept in your browser so it’s still here if you reload the page. When you import a link, our server fetches that one page to pull out the article text and sends it straight back; nothing is stored.
What speed should I use?
Most people read normal text at around 200–300 words per minute. Start near your usual pace, then raise it gradually. Not sure what your pace is? Take the free reading speed test.
Can I read PDFs or EPUB books?
On the web, copy the text and paste it here. For whole files, the readerr app for iPhone and iPad imports PDF, EPUB and web articles directly and remembers your place.
